The upheaval across Switzerland has consequences
Card clutter costs millions of coins
Groceries were only available for cash at Coop branches on Monday. That was the money. Especially for major distributors, as it is now clear.

On Monday, nothing works at Coop without cash.
There were major problems with card payments in all 955 branches of the co-op on Monday. Nothing works at Coop without a coin or small items in your pants pocket or handbag. Anyone who wanted to pay by card or Twint looked old. Reason: technical failure.
Everything went smoothly again on Tuesday. Coop took responsibility for the disturbing incident. “It was a technical error that affected the network’s connection to the payment service provider,” a spokeswoman for Blake said.
This is bittersweet for the Swiss retailer: because self-destruction costs money. Especially since the wholesaler is not insured against failure of card terminals. This was confirmed by Cope in the “Arguer Zeitung”.. Coop cannot pass the damage on to the payment service provider.
Several million francs
Given Coop’s annual retail sales of 19.6 billion francs, the loss incurred by the company as a result of the outage is likely to reach several million francs, according to “Aargauer Zeitung”.
Coop does not give Blick any specific numbers. The spokeswoman only admits: “The failure of card payments had an impact on sales.” (pbe)
