Siemens is on track to supply trains for a high-speed line in the USA. The company was selected as the “preferred bidder,” it was announced Thursday evening. This means that final contract negotiations are now underway. Specifically, this includes the delivery of ten trains connecting Las Vegas and Southern California at speeds of more than 350 kilometers per hour. Travelers should be able to get from Las Vegas to the Los Angeles area in less than two hours. Many international companies applied for the tender.
This route is considered the first true high-speed line in the United States. “We are proud to have been selected as the preferred bidder “to build and maintain America’s first true high-speed train, the American Pioneer 220,” said Michael Peter, President of Siemens Mobility. The train will be “a sustainable alternative to airplanes. When it enters service, it will be one of the most important moments in American railroad history.”
The train is intended to be a further development of the Velaro platform used in Europe, which is also the basis of the current ICE. It is scheduled to be built in the USA – assuming the contract is successfully concluded.
