Young women now wear panties instead of pants
A new fad turns underwear back into outerwear: because now women leave their pants on – they wear their underwear over their tights. This is the reason behind the lightweight look.
HDressed in a black blazer, white flashing sleeves, black stockings and a tapered back belt — but there’s something missing when you look at supermodel Kendall Jenner’s photo: pants, a skirt, a rag.
When you think of people without pants, you might think of the crazy New Yorkers who drive to work on “No Pants Day” in sweat socks and dress shoes. But in this case The new fashion trend is coyly conquering the city streets.
Also at Fashion Week, you can see pantless models from Miu Miu to Ferragamo and apparently too Without contraindications. Since then, more and more influencers on TikTok and Co. How they think the “pantsless look” can be combined for everyday use. But what about the somewhat veiled show?
Under the hashtag #nopants on TikTok and Instagram, you can find somewhat notorious videos of young women in miniskirts or long shirts smiling purposefully at the camera – some teasers also mention not wearing underwear at the moment. There are also fashion photos that would prompt the question in “real life”: “Do you even wear pants?”. Because what is worn is too short for a dress and too long for a shirt.
But the current trend has one nuance that separates it from the attack. The secret is in the opaque tights, which are worn over the body, underwear or even men’s underwear. As seen with Kylie Jenner:
She was wearing a Loewe men’s undershirt and panties. The leggings at 380 euros are reminiscent of the traditional ‘tights’. Under – of course – black tights and shoes in the style of Minnie Mouse. She wore a long, oversized trench coat over it, which at the same time concealed and showed the appearance of underwear.
Most importantly, when designing the trend, the “pants” are shorter than the hot pants singer Jessica Simpson wore in her 2005 video for her “These Boots Are Made For Walkin'” cover. But longer than the skinny bikini bottoms she lathered in afterward.
The no-pants look is reminiscent of past fashion eras, such as the 1950s. At the time, women wore short, tight shorts, whose cut and high waist were a modification of the bikini bottom typical of the time. At first I saw these clothes only on the beach and on pin-up girls, and later also on the street.
Likewise, current fashion is reminiscent of aerobics classes with Jane Fonda, who often wore a one-piece bodysuit over her skinny jeans in the ’80s. Fittingly, legwarmers are currently celebrating their costume’s comeback with basic ballet leggings.
As early as 2021, Miu Miu caused a backlash with its snap-on mini skirts, whose pleats are reminiscent of the tennis skirts of the 1960s – and started a new trend. In doing so, the “nothing” movement countered the so-called skirt hem theory (from 1926), according to which women’s skirts tended to get longer during economically difficult times—such as the recession of the 1970s. Today, however, skirts and pants are becoming increasingly rare as inflation continues.
And what with pantyhose? Given the consistently low temperatures, it’s a means to an end, warming the legs without masking them. And it makes it appear narrower and longer in the black version. But it’s already clear: Once temperatures rise, socks will also stay away. bella hadid, Kylie Jenner or Julia Fox.
