Coach Yakin reveals his plan for goalkeeper Sumer
The World Cup could come. The Swiss national team plane will take off, Monday, at three o’clock in the afternoon, heading to Qatar. Coach Murat Yakin reveals his plan with regular goalkeeper Jan Sommer.

The last matches of the national leagues are over, and now the focus is on the World Cup in Qatar. On Monday, the Swiss national team will head to the desert where they will play their first match of the group stage against Cameroon on Thursday (November 24th). Stars are gradually arriving at Zurich Airport, including our number one Jan Sommer.
When asked about his last injured foot, the goalkeeper replied: “I’m much better off.” “I think I’ll be ready in the next few days.”
It is not yet known whether he will be in the stands for Thursday’s friendly match against Ghana. Coach Murat Yakin (48) hopes that he can rely on his usual goalkeeper: “We hope that we can train intensively with him tomorrow and be able to use him on Thursday.”
“I was not at all afraid of the World Cup”
The last test before a big tournament is always very important in the summer. It never occurred to him that he might miss the World Cup: “I was not at all afraid of the World Cup.”
However, the healing process took longer than initially thought: “The sprain was very severe, like I had never experienced it before.” Sommer was able to train with his club again recently and had enough time to prepare for the World Cup. “I played a lot of matches before that, I was in a rhythm. It’s like riding a bike,” says the 33-year-old with a laugh at the end.
