Messaging service WhatsApp and social media app Instagram were not working on Wednesday evening – apparently across the globe. However, services appear to be back up and running again.
Some users reported the issue on X:
There were also significantly more problems with the bug reporting site allestoerungen.ch WhatsApp And Instagram I mentioned as usual.
There has been a major WhatsApp outage since around 8pm on Wednesday evening with over 17,000 reports. Messages cannot be sent or received. It seems that the desktop version is no longer accessible at all.

Just under 600 Instagram outages have been reported in Switzerland. Instead of current posts, only posts that are several days old are shown in the feed.

Meta mentioned the WhatsApp outage on the status page. The group had to suffer major disruptions to its applications just under a month ago.
