Paramount+ Australia and Screen Australia announce Paramount+ original drama series commission “fake” A new story of love in a known world full of liars, cheaters, imposters and frauds. Inspired by the book “Forgery” by Stephanie Wood, the eight-part series is produced by Imogen Banks (“Safe House,” “Offspring”) and Emily Palmer (“Safe House,” “RFDS”) and co-produced by Kindling Pictures. Co-produced and co-starred by Gold Logie Award winner Asher Geddy.

“Fake” is a gripping, emotional thriller that explores truth, love, lies and the stories we tell ourselves. It was created for television by AWGIE-winning screenwriter Anya Beiersdorff and directed by AACTA and Australian Director’s Guild Award winner Emma Freeman (“Secret City”). Australian Film Institute Award-winning actor David Wenham (“Seachange”) stars alongside Asher Geddy.

“Fake” is about Birdie Bell (Geddy), a handsome, smart and brilliant magazine writer who believes she’s found “the perfect one” when she meets Joe Burt (Wenham), a successful cross-towner, through a dating app. Convinced by her well-meaning friends and family that this might be her own happy ending, Birdie begins to believe that this is her chance to finally live out the fairy tale. As cracks begin to appear in Joe’s stories, Birdie soon discovers that her boyfriend is not what he was led to believe.
