MELBOURNE (SIT) – Former Bundesliga pro Alexander Bamjohan has missed out on his second title at the Australian Football Championship. The 34-year-old lost to Melbourne City FC 1: 3 (1: 1) in the play-off final against Sydney FC.
The Melbourne team, part of the International City Football Association, managed to avenge a 0-1 defeat in the final in front of 15,000 spectators at their home ground a year ago.
Melbourne went into the play-offs first in the table in the main round, but in the final guests from Sydney met Costa Barbaross (21st). However, then, the 2017 Cup winner came back with Nathaniel Atkinson (23rd), Scott Jamieson (45th + 1) and Scott Galloway (90th + 3) and won the first championship title in the club’s young history.
In 2014, Sheikh Mansour’s City football team bought an 80 percent stake in Melbourne Hart. In the process, the name of the association was changed and a new logo was issued. Pamjohan has been playing under town for three years, playing for Schalke 04 and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, and in 2010 he won a double with Bayer.
