The United States, Britain and Canada imposed new sanctions on Tehran on Thursday in response to Iran's attack on Israel. These measures are primarily aimed at the trade and production of drones.
The US government announced that it had sanctioned 16 companies, eight people, several ships and one plane accused of helping Iran buy drones. Four companies and two individuals have been sanctioned for their involvement in drone production, London said. Also, exports of components used to build drones are further restricted.
“Britain and its partners have sent a clear message today – we must hold those responsible for Iran's disruptive behavior to account,” British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said, according to the statement. Iran's ability to develop and export these deadly weapons will be further restricted, the conservative politician continued.
Iran attacked Israel in mid-April with hundreds of drones, rockets and cruise missiles. However, they were almost completely thwarted with the support of the Allies. The strike was in response to a suspected Israeli-led airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus that killed two influential Revolutionary Guard generals earlier this month.
