Who is telling the truth and who is lying? This is currently the case in the Star of David scandal between the luxury Leipzig hotel “The Westin” and the 39-year-old musician Gil Overeem. He had accused a hotel employee of anti-Semitism: on the evening of October 4, he was denied check-in because of his chain with the Star of David necklace. “Pack the star,” said a man in the background as well as the lodging clerk. The singer is now in trouble due to the surveillance recordings that have been posted: the series in question cannot be seen there!
“I don’t know if I wear the necklace under or over the shirt. That’s not what it’s about, it’s about being Jewish in general,” the former Let’s Dance candidate told Bild on Sunday. See the chain or not.” He is said to have testified the same to the police.

A day later he became more explicit in his statements. He was wearing his piece of jewelry, but he doesn’t know exactly how: “I always wear this necklace, and I’ve also been known to always wear this necklace,” he defends himself. Ofrim was no longer sure whether he was wearing the chain over or under his shirt when he testified. “You can also see the star through the shirt. I was attacked as a Jew for wearing the star. I didn’t lie, I always wore the asterisk. (…) I certainly don’t do that for PR reasons. I don’t joke about such topics.”
The police now allegedly have “serious doubts” about Ofrim’s account. But the son of the Israeli music legend Abi Ofrim (1937-2018) expressed his happiness at analyzing all the video materials. It can be seen that he did not change the chain especially for his Instagram video in which he made allegations against the hotel. “There is a moment in the surveillance video when I point back. This is the moment I point out the person who insulted me.” This is also evidence of the correctness of his words.

Ofrim said he has no regrets about the allegations’ video. “I knew what kind of waves they were making. But I didn’t think of the extent to which I might turn from victim to perpetrator.” But if he was offended by anti-Semitism, he would open his mouth again.
Several advertisements have been filed with the police for the star of David Zoff. The hotel employee reported the musician for defamation, and Gil Ofarim reported the events and the employee’s behavior. The hotel staff involved were on vacation until the issue was fully resolved. (IMH)
