Because she imitated the British accent
Duchess Meghan has to be criticized
Duchess Meghan has to deal with a lot of hate. She is currently being criticized for her British accent.
Duchess Meghan has been criticized for imitating a British accent.
Duchess Meghan, 40, has to put up with criticism time and time again, including most recently after the latest episode of Spotify’s “Archaetypes” podcast. Trigger was a single word uttered by the American with a British accent. This upset some listeners.
British actress and activist Jameela Jamil, 36, was Megan’s guest. The Duchess of Sussex greeted her with the words: “Are you all right my love? Hello.” (To Dt. “Are you okay, sweetheart? Hello”) Prince Harry’s wife, 38, then imitated a British accent, with “Hello” becoming “Ello.”
Twitter users blame Meghan
Don’t go for some Twitter users. Are you kidding about the British accent now? Please Meghan, just shut up.” One user complains, apparently seeing the imitation as an attack on Brits. Another mocked her, calling her vocalization “really pathetic,” while another wrote, “She’s so fake.”
Four years ago on a trip with Queen Elizabeth II (96), who died in September, Meghan, who once wanted British citizenship, is said to have tried to speak with a British accent. A CNN reporter commented at the time: “Strictly speaking, for a Brit, it doesn’t sound really British – yet. But it’s on its way.” Further: “I think it is clear that she speaks more slowly and emphasizes more accurately – just as all the royals do, so that people can understand them.”
A friend defends Megan
Her friend Jameela Jamil also knows that Megan has a lot of hate to bear. She just can’t understand that and now she’s defending him. She describes the Duchess of Sussex as “such a kind and civilized woman”. To Jamil, the actress said on the podcast: “Can’t fathom how much crap you have to put up with, Megan.” Jameel should not have liked the fact that the podcast episode with her as a guest drew yet another wave of criticism.
