It’s a shock to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans: Ellen Pompeo, 53, has put her work on the medical series on hold. “I am so grateful and humbled for the love and support you have shown me, Meredith Gray and the show over the course of 19 seasons,” she captioned a photo of herself on Instagram.
Ellen Pompeo has been speculated for a long time. Because in the past few seasons, the American actress, who plays the main role, has withdrawn more and more and is only seen infrequently. Instead, she worked more and more behind the camera and, as a producer, was responsible for individual episodes of the award-winning series. This was reportedly a condition for the star of the series — in addition to XXL’s over half a million dollar fee per episode — not to retire a former serial doctor.

After all, Meredith Gray’s character hasn’t completely gone away. Ellen Pompeo declared, “You know the show has to go on and I will definitely come back to visit you.”
Shonda Rhimes, 52, the woman behind the Doctor Who series, thanks her Instagram photo. “What a wild ride the last 19 seasons have been. None of this would have been possible without the incomparable Ellen Pompeo, the incomparable Meredith Gray.” Rhimes avoids talking about an end. Instead, she asserts, “This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a ‘see you later’! I can’t wait to see what Ellen, Meredith, and the Gray Sloan memorial do.”
Although Pompeo and Rhimes have been talking about continuing the series, there is already speculation as to whether the departure of the TV Doctor could also mean the end of the series. Because recently, the otherwise strong stakes have been declining. Shonda Rhimes has also said in previous interviews that she would not continue the series without its main character.
