Canon has announced two new cameras. There are several indications that the camera is an EOS R1.
Waiting for the Canon EOS R1
The CP+ photography trade show will be held in Japan at the end of February, and Canon will almost certainly introduce at least one, and possibly several, new products in the run-up to the trade show. In the past few weeks, there have been recurring rumors in the rumor mill that the most significant new product will be the Canon EOS R1. Now another piece of the puzzle has emerged, which doesn't directly confirm the EOS R1's imminent presentation, but at least reaffirms that Canon will be announcing new products in the near future.
Two new cameras registered in Asia
Canon has registered two new cameras in Asia:
- DS126922 (5.1GHz/2.4GHz, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth)
- ID0179 (5.1GHz/2.4GHz, Wi-Fi 5)
The DS126922 can be a Canon EOS R1, while modern WiFi 6 802.11ax is mainly suitable for DSLM. Alternatively, a new APS-C flagship could also be envisioned. This may not be the Canon EOS R5 Mark II, because that will still be some time away.
The name “ID” at the same time indicates that the second new camera is a cinema camera. Normally, Canon cameras don't start with those two letters, but the Canon EOS R5 C was a recent exception.
