After displaying red-white-and-red skiing at the World Cup on home soil last week, things have moved on at Whistler Mountain. The competition recovered, but Madeleine Eagle from Rennes and Wolfgang Kindl from Naters returned to the podium.
24 years Madeline Eagle, who won both races in the Eagles, showed her full competitive potential after a mixed practice session and moved to the top after the break. Behind Tyrolean, which managed to consolidate its lead in the World Cup overall, Germans Julia Tobitz and Merle Fribel finished second and third. Lisa Schulte with the sixth fastest time in the final improved from twelfth to eighth, Hannah Brooke was fourteenth, and Selina Eagle finished the competition in twenty-first. Curve finish I have to do better in the team relay, but overall I’m very happy and very satisfied.”
Roll on the platform
In the men’s category, Felix Loch countered the impressive four-way victory of the ÖRV men the previous week. The two-time Olympic champion and six-time world champion in singles, who raced the first heat with a new record, showed no weaknesses in the second round either and achieved his 50th World Cup victory. Three hundred behind the German Wolfgang Kindle As in the beginning in Igls, second place. The Tyrolean, who started the handicap race with a bruised hand, confirmed his great qualities on the track with a best time in the second round. Vorarlberg’s Jonas Müller finished the race as the second-best Austrian in sixth, Nico Gleicher, who dominated the Eagles’ season opener with two wins, followed in seventh. David Gleicher, who finished in a promising fifth place after the first run, had to come off his skates at the end of turn 13 and thus did not finish 20th.
Do the right thing
“The increase in training has been phenomenal,” sums up the champion Natter toboggan. “In the beginning I had a hard time because of the hand bruise, but I found the right answer on the track, apart from the finishing curve, which unfortunately I didn’t hit in either of the two runs, I’m very satisfied with my performance. It was clear that it wasn’t going to last like last week in Igls, but there will be paths again in which we as a whole team can put ourselves in the spotlight again.”
