German show jumpers won the start of the League of Nations. Things are not going well in the United States.
OCALA – The German show jumping team placed only fifth at the Nations Cup in Ocala. After the team won the first stage of the United Nations League in Abu Dhabi in mid-February, it received a total of 20 penalty points in the second stage in the United States of America. At the height of the tournament in Florida, Ireland won (5), ahead of Switzerland (8) and the host quartet (12).
None of the four German pairings led by former European champion Andre Thiem (Blau) and Czakaria remained error-free in Ocala. Richard Vogel (Marburg) even gave up in the first round with United Touch, but managed a flawless result in the second round. The quartet also included Christian Kukoc (Reisenbeek) with Checker and David Weil (Marburg) with May Prince.
The other two stages of the new series for national teams will take place in St. Gallen and Rotterdam in June. The eight best teams will be allowed to compete in the final in Barcelona in October. dpa
