At the end of 2022 there was almost a positive surprise. A Tesla semi-trailer with that name was originally supposed to go into production in 2019, but it’s been delayed — as recently as April, CEO Elon Musk had given 2023 as the latest start date, but then surprisingly announced deliveries would begin in August in Same year on. There was actually an event for this in December, but initially only a few Tesla Semis were delivered to major customer PepsiCo and no other customer. And as Musk has now announced, more of them likely won’t be rolled out until at least 2024.

The upcoming postponement of Semi Tesla

This semi-disappointment follows the positive surprise at the end of 2022 from the Tesla chief’s appearance at the EEI 2023 Tier 1 Supplier Conference in Austin. You may have almost got lost in many of the topics discussed in Tuesday’s session with Musk (see image above). However, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) appears to have been there, listened carefully and put the news at the beginning of the article and in its headline.

“Tesla doesn’t see greater production of the electric semi-truck before the end of 2024,” the translated title reads. From a contribution from the Wall Street Journal. Musk explained this at a conference in Austin and cited battery supply restrictions as the reason for this, the text says, but without verbatim quotes. However, it was interesting because the news agency As reported by Reuters From Austin, but a little different: According to Musk, Tesla doesn’t expect a quasi-production ramp-up until sometime next year.

When in doubt, this could make a difference of more than a year, but both reports come to the conclusion that the Tesla Semi shouldn’t be seen in greater numbers anyway in 2023. This would be more of a reversal going forward from August 2022 after going from April than Same year. Even if serial production begins in early 2024, which the Reuters report says can’t be ruled out, it would now be more than four years behind the first announcement in the semi-render in 2017.

“Supercharger unlocks ethically properly”

A summary of Tuesday’s conference on the EEI website mentions the conversation with Musk but not the last half-postponement. Instead, it’s about the enormously increased demand for electricity that the Tesla chief predicted for a sustainable economy — about three times what it is today, which is good news for producers in the audience. According to the summary, it was also about opening up the Supercharger network and system for GM and Ford as partners. Musk explained that this decision was morally correct. According to Reuters, he added that it is not yet clear whether this is true from a financial point of view.
