Hackers may have gained access to sensitive military data in a cyber attack on the British Ministry of Defence. Many media reports this. Accordingly, China is said to be behind this attack.

The British Ministry of Defense has fallen victim to a cyber attack, media reports say. A payroll system containing the names and bank details of current army members and some veterans was hacked. That's about 270,000 people, according to Politico.

In a few thousand cases names and bank details and personal addresses were affected. So far, investigators haven't found any evidence that the data was removed. The BBC and British news agency PA also reported on the cyber attack.

The government suspects that China is the mastermind

The Labor Department said the database, managed by an outside contractor, was quickly taken offline and more information about the attack would be released soon.

Sky News reports that the government suspects that China is behind the attack. Britain and the US accused China of malicious cyber attacks in March. Chinese hackers are said to be responsible for an attack on the British Electoral Commission in 2021 and for targeting the email accounts of British MPs.

Shabbs will issue a statement today

Defense Secretary Grant Shabbs is due to make a statement to Parliament this afternoon. But he has yet to name anyone responsible.

Tobias Ellwood, a Conservative MP and defense expert, told Sky News that China could target financially vulnerable Britons to co-operate with large remittances.
