“Flying should be cheaper next year”
The Swiss president expects prices to fall in 2024, but flying will become more expensive in the medium term. The airline also wants to improve punctuality, which is below its expectations.
Swiss President Dieter Franks expects flight prices to rise in the future: “In the medium and long term, I assume prices will rise.” This is necessary to invest in more environmentally friendly technologies.
However, Franks predicted lower prices next year in an interview with “NZZ am Sonntag”: “Our prices this year have already been slightly lower on average than last year. The plateau has been reached and flying will probably become cheaper next year.” “The pressure on prices continues to increase as production capacity grows.”
The Swiss company also wants to improve punctuality over the next year and a half, Franks said. “Our punctuality currently falls short of what you would expect from a premium carrier.”
According to Franks, artificial intelligence (AI) is also being used to improve the entire system. “We have connected different operating systems and have large amounts of data analyzed by Google Cloud,” the Swiss president said.
AI makes suggestions and then experts decide whether to accept them or not. “96 percent of Google Cloud proposals have been accepted in the past 12 months,” says Frankx. Swiss acted as the pilot airline for the project, and the system should now be expanded to include the entire Lufthansa group.
