“Above the Clouds,” Reinhard May once sang about it. The members of the Paragliding and Paragliding Association in Waldstetten are not quite above the clouds, but close to the clouds. One of them is currently ranked second in the German Paragliding Championship.

A head-to-head race, or flight, is currently taking place in the German Paragliding Championship: Markus von Mallinckrodt is currently in second place, a few points behind Hans Waltscher of Schrattenbach-Flieger of the Allgäu of the Waldstetten Paragliding Club, Drei-Kaiser-Berg-Flieger . “In gliding, cross-country flying is about flying as far as possible. With such a simple plane and launching on foot from the slope, flights of several hundred kilometers are sometimes possible. “The three best flights are included in the evaluation,” explains Jörg Metzler, Secretary of the Federation. He had already managed two very good flights of 182 and 194 kilometres. Then the weather forecast for July 7 promised a good flying day in South Tyrol. So von Malinckrodt flew to the Anterselva valley and climbed to the Grente launch site early in the morning.
You can read how many kilometers Malinckrodt has flown and what makes paragliding so great for athletes, you can read Thursday’s Rems newspaper. This is also available on iKiosk.
