In an interview with a trade magazine Kicker The 30-year-old explains his move from Arsenal to Werkself. The exchange with Bayer officials and coach Xabi Alonso was crucial for him.

“The club and Xavi have already told me what role I should play,” says Xhaka, “and that matches perfectly with my qualities and my strengths.” Captain Nati was Bayer’s captain in their first three Bundesliga matches, all of which Leverkusen won.

Xhaka was well received by the team

“If there had been a different plan, I wouldn’t have been seen here,” Xhaka explains. It must be true from both sides, you can see that. “I feel very comfortable here, and also on the pitch with the players. They have welcomed me really well.”

Xhaka is currently with the national team and playing in the European Championship qualifying matches against Kosovo (Saturday, September 9) and Andorra (Tuesday, September 12).
