FIFA introduced 8 bandages on Friday, with which players at the World Cups in Australia and New Zealand can lead their teams onto the field. A rainbow-coloured badge is not included, as it is worn by many clubs as well as on national teams.

Instead, 8 social interest messages will be distributed under the ‘Football Unites the World’ campaign. FIFA announced that the selection was made in close consultation with all 32 participating countries, players and various interest groups.

Still banned in Qatar

The captain’s armband made a splash at the end of last year as part of the Men’s World Cup. At the tournament in Qatar, countries were threatened with penalties a few hours before kick-off if they wore a colorful band with “One Love” written on it, as many had planned.
