Converting values: The String shelf gets a color update
Complete editions, biographies and encyclopedias, evidence of an academic career: the bookshelf was the pride of the educated middle class. Today, as books become disembodied, the shelf itself takes on a representational mission—like Pocket by String in fresh colours.
Cooking: Star Dalad Campo shows off her work clothes
Casual strength, comfort at work, leisure at work: Since there is no separation between work and home, work attire should be a hybrid like the week. As a star chef, Dalad Campo understands this. Berlin is always on the move by choice, but she is also the manager of her restaurant, Kin Dee, which has brought fine Thai dining to the German capital. A musty chef’s jacket is not appropriate for a meeting. In Arket’s “The Work Wardrobe” campaign, Kambhu shows how his tried-and-tested cookware works.
Reliable: Hay is relaunching the Gerrit Rietveld “Crate” chair as a series
Nothing is certain anymore, no pension, no warmth. Hay must have thought in time to relaunch the Gerrit Rietveld-designed “Crate” chair in 1934—it gave people their attitude even during the Great Depression.
In Summer 2009: Picture Book by Walter Pfeiffer and Matteo Thun
Once the family’s most important archive, the photo book now smells like a stench from the good old days. Not if the photos were taken by Zurich photographer Walter Pfeiffer, who accompanied Matteo Thun’s sons Constantin and Leopold on their trip to Italy. In the summer of 2009, the three traveled from Zurich to Capri, via Mendrisio, Celerina, Milan, Pozzin and Miran, encountering several works of their father, one of Italy’s most important architects and designers.
