19-year-old Canadian Christopher Morales Williams quite surprisingly wins the SEC (Southeast) Collegiate Championship in Fayetteville/Arkansas World record over 400 meters indoors Cracked.
The University of Georgia student won the 200 meters in 44.49 seconds, besting the old mark of American Kieron Clement, who ran 44.57 seconds at the same venue in 2005. Morales-Williams improved his best by nine-tenths in one fell swoop.
World Athletics must confirm the world record
Since this season, the Western Australian Athletics Association has been talking about a “short track” world record, meaning indoor records set for races over 200 meters and over. World Athletics specifically noted that Morales-Williams' time has not yet been certified as a record.
Sophomore Christopher Morales-Williams, the Canadian 400-meter champion, did not compete at the world championships in Budapest last summer.
Just last Sunday, Dutchwoman Femke Boel lowered her indoor 400m world record to 49.24 seconds in Apeldoorn.
South African Wayde van Niekerk's world record in the 400 meters has been 43.03 seconds since the 2016 Olympics.
