Vincent Sierro is the man of the hour in Toulouse. He loves to talk, analyze carefully, and dream big.

From a big club to a rising team, this is what Vincent Cierro said a year ago. When the then regular left the capital for Toulouse last winter, the team from the south of France had only just established themselves in Ligue 1.

Now, 13 months later, TFC have a cup win under their belt (the first in the club's history), reached the Europa League qualifiers (narrowly ahead of Benfica) and are led by a new captain: Cierro.

Captain tailored to the body

The 28-year-old is currently in great form. As a defensive midfielder, he has scored 3 goals in his last 6 matches, two of them from the penalty spot. “It's really fun at the moment,” Cierro said, unsurprisingly, in an interview with SRF.

He takes his important role on the team seriously. He added: “As a captain, I want to take responsibility, whether through penalty kicks or off the field.” Cierro explains why he was able to take over the captaincy last summer and after only six months at the new club: “I talk a lot on the pitch and I have a certain level of intelligence in the game.” His linguistic affinity is certainly not a handicap either.

Cierro has never been allowed to play for the senior national team, but he still has a big personal goal: “My dream is to go to the European Championships. But I know the competition is fierce.” In fact, the central midfield of the Swiss national team includes Granit Xhaka, Denis Zakaria, Remo Freuler, Michel Aebischer and Djibril Sow are many illustrious names. But as we all know, dreaming is always allowed.
