Scoring goals was a big problem for Swiss women in the Inka Grange era. The national team gave the first indication that this might change under the leadership of new coach Pia Sundhage against Poland. She scored four goals in the secure 4-1 win in Marbella, more than she has scored since the 15-0 win over Moldova in September 2022.
The Swiss laid the foundations for success early in the match when they benefited from Polish assistance twice. First, defender Viktoria Zenevic pushed a cross from debutant Sydney Schertenlieb into her own net to make it 1-0 (6th minute). Shortly afterwards, Polish star Ewa Bajor showed mercy from the penalty spot: Elvira Herzog managed her weak effort into the Swiss goal.
Shortly before the end of the first half, Aliya Pilgrim scored to make the score 2-0. Aurélie Celaj's shot after Miriam Tershon's skillful through ball was blocked by Polish goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek and Pilgrim sealed the win.
Eveleg with Natty's first goal
The immediate aftermath of the break showed that not everything is going well even under Sundhage. Poland came out of the locker room better and deserved to make it 1-2 through Kayla Adamek in the 62nd minute.
In the absence of captain Lea Valti, who suffered a knee injury and thus survived the injury, Ramona Bachmann took over as coach of Switzerland. She confirmed her value to the team through the preparatory work for Noemi Evele's 3-1 win. The task for the 17-year-old JC talent was no longer difficult in the 66th minute. Eveleigh confidently scored her first international goal in her second appearance.
Five laps from pointer Alisha Lehmann, who came on as a substitute, completed the double stroke perfectly. Lehmann last scored in a Natty uniform two years ago.
