Thun beats Aarau: Sion celebrates a last-minute win in Vaduz and consolidates its leadership position

Leaders Sion turned a 0-1 scoreline into 2-1 in the final stage of the Challenge League in Vaduz and still hold a four-point lead over Thun, who beat visitors Aarau 1-0.

For a long time, this looked to be the second defeat for relegated Sion in Vaduz this season. The visitors fell behind in the 22nd minute with an own goal scored by Ali Kabakalman. They chased that until the 86th minute. Then Dejan Surjic equalized from close range. Things got better for Sion, as Surjic made it 2-1 again in stoppage time (94').

With his seventh goal of the season, he spoiled Mark Schneider's debut as Vaduz coach. He replaced the fired Martin Stoklasa during the week. Liechtenstein have won just once in their last 15 Challenger League matches. This is Sion's fifth win in a row.

With Thon and Aarau he met second and third in the table. Nikola Sutter scored the only goal of the match in the 72nd minute. The difference between these two teams is now 16 points – second place qualifies for participation in the barrage. Aarau, who now sit in fourth place, will almost certainly have to wait to return to the Premier League. Coach Alex Frei served his second and final suspension in Thun after a middle finger gesture.
