Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, 44, asked Kremlin President Vladimir Putin, 69, to hold direct talks. “If you don’t want to escape (with your troops from Ukraine), sit down with me at the negotiating table, I have time,” Zelensky told reporters on Thursday.
“But not at a distance of 30 metres, as with (French President Emmanuel) Macron (Chancellor Olaf) Schulz – I am a neighbor after all,” Silinsky said. “I don’t bite. I’m a normal guy. Sit with me, and tell me what you’re afraid of,” said the 44-year-old.
Zelensky called again for NATO to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine. “If you don’t want the sky to close now, then set a timeout,” he said. “Tell me, how many people have to fly through the air, how many arms, legs, and heads do you need to get to you?” The no-fly zone is considered impossible because it will lead to a direct confrontation between NATO forces and the Russian armed forces.
Student of Ukraine’s demilitarization
Russia launched an attack on neighboring Ukraine a week ago. Zelensky said he did not understand Moscow’s demands from Kyiv. “We did not attack Russia, and we do not want to attack it,” the president said. “We are in NATO? No. Do we have nuclear weapons? No.”
Russia calls for Ukraine to demilitarize and give up NATO membership, accusing it of wanting to build nuclear weapons.
According to Zelensky, about 9,000 Russian soldiers have now been killed, while Moscow put the number at 498. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the Russian attack “killed or wounded hundreds, if not thousands, of civilians.” According to American information, the Russian army also uses internationally banned cluster bombs and vacuum bombs.
