Raul Petretta after the classic victory: “We had to go down, on the field and next to it”
After a convincing 4-0 victory over FC Zurich and qualifying for the Conference League, Raul Petretta talks about his first double as a professional, Patrick Rahman and the post-match winning streak.
Bayern win 4-0 in the Classics over FC Zurich. He won in the heights too?
Raul Petretta: Yeah. We could have scored one or two more goals. We created a lot of chances to score over the course of 90 minutes and we could have played some actions better. But we controlled the game, always had the ball, and we’re very happy.
You yourself contributed two goals. When was the last time you did that?
Sometime with the kids. I never got to the pros. I’m happy, I’m feeling relaxed and refreshed enough lately to help the team. Everything is more beautiful with two goals.
The red card in the fourth minute was crucial. do you agree?
It’s true, even if it isn’t easy against a team at the back. But we had a good room design, always looking for a free man and that was fine. That’s why we created so many chances to score and deserved to win at this level.
After the match, the entire team gathered on the lawn to take a picture. Was it a celebration of qualifying for the conference tournament?
To be honest, I don’t know why we took the photo either. I asked my team mates, but no one could give me an answer (laughs). But of course: We are happy with Europe.
In January there was a 1: 4 defeat against FCZ. How happy are you that FCB can now play in Europe next season?
very happy. We had weeks where we had to go down, on the square and right next to it. Patrick Frame is doing a very good job with us, and he has kept us under control. He exudes the calm we need and we are well prepared for every match.
The team prepared for the classics with special pictures.
Yes, he had the feeling that in our last derby, nobody had any sense of what the derby meant. His pictures brought nothing. There was more motivation. But in the end we have to show that to the players on the field. And we did.
