600,000+ users: ChatGPT is becoming increasingly popular among businesses
Since January, the number of users of the enterprise version of ChatGPT has quadrupled. OpenAI now wants to expand.
OpenAI, the inventor of ChatGPT, is seeing a rapid increase in the number of chatbot AI users in enterprises. More than 600,000 users are now signed up to the company's version of ChatGPT, Brad Lightcap, OpenAI's director of operational business, told Bloomberg Financial on Thursday. In January there were about 150,000.
ChatGPT has been generating buzz around artificial intelligence for just over a year. AI chatbots are trained with vast amounts of information, can formulate text at a human linguistic level, write software code, and summarize information.
The principle behind this is that they estimate, word for word, how a sentence should continue. One drawback: The program sometimes gives completely wrong answers, even if they are based on only correct information. Developers are working to put reliable software guardrails in place to prevent something like this from happening.
The enterprise version of ChatGPT is the cornerstone of OpenAI's business model. At the same time, there are also many competitors who also want to house their AI assistants in companies. OpenAI has signed a $1 billion deal with Microsoft, and the software giant is using the startup's technology in many of its products.
OpenAI currently has about 1,200 employees, Lightcap said. The startup plans to open a branch in Japan.
