The German women's national football team's group opponents have been decided in the preliminary round at the Olympic Games in Paris. As revealed by the draw in the French capital, national coach Horst Hrubesch's team will play against the USA, Australia and Zambia or Morocco.
The first match against former World Cup hosts and fourth-placed Australia is on July 25 in Marseille. Whether Zambia or Morocco will be in Germany's preliminary Group B will not be decided until April. Germany qualified for the Olympic Games by finishing third in the Nations League. In the second match on July 28, the footballers will clash America. The final group game against one of the two African teams will take place on July 31 in Saint-Étienne.
Olympic debut for Spanish women
Spain's world champions Japan and former world champions Brazil face Group C first in their Olympic debut. Spain will face either Nigeria or South Africa in the third game. The Canadians face hosts France, New Zealand and Colombia in Group A.
On the men's side, hosts France face the United States in their opening match. The other opponents in Group A are New Zealand and the winners of the knockout match between the representatives of Asia and Africa.
