  • An American ordered a cake for a party and provided a sketch of what the end result should look like.

  • Only the edge of the cake should be decorated from above and below.

  • Instead, the pastry chef painted the drawing in the center of the cake, and the photo went viral.

An American recently ordered a personalized cake from a Costco wholesaler. He instructed the pastry chef to make half a cake with vanilla cheesecake mousse, enough for 48 people. The look should remain simple, “no stripes” and “no patterns.” The only request was to decorate the cake with red icing on top and bottom.

To make it easier for the confectioner, provide a small drawing of what the cake should look like with the order. As pictures of the finished product on Reddit forum r/funny show say, the pastry chef likely took the drawing literally. Customer writes: “Costco will give you exactly what you know you don’t need.”

“That sounds great!”

One photo showing the final personalized cake. But instead of red icing around the top and bottom edges, the cake-maker painted the drawing in the order in the middle of the cake—in red, after all, as it is on the order form.

Reddit users are enjoying themselves about misunderstanding. One wrote: “I laughed so hard it almost woke my baby up.” Another excited: “Looks great! I’m not going to get mad.” Others believe that the confectioner improved the basic design even more.
