The German ice hockey team is greedy for its first World Cup medal in 70 years. In the semi-finals against the United States, this could already have been guaranteed with a win. It’s a relief that Moritz Seider wasn’t stopped after his tough quarterback inspection.

The German national ice hockey team can count on NHL defender Moritz Seider in the World Cup semi-final against the USA. The IIHF declined to suspend the 22-year-old in the quarter-final against Switzerland (3-1) the day before for misconduct in the match. “We all know exactly where we want to go and we don’t want it to end up here,” Seider said after his training in Tampere, Finland. But even a quarter-final win is a massive success: DEB won their third World Cup quarter-final against Switzerland after 2010 and 2021 and are battling against the USA for their first World Cup medal in 70 years. By defeating Switzerland, the German national team has already secured participation in the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan.
