Inter Milan strengthens its lead in the Italian League. The 19-time Italian football champion won 5-1 (2-0) over neighbors AC Monza in Round 20 and extended its lead over defending champion Juventus Torino to five points. Therefore, the “Old Lady” is under pressure against Sassuolo Calcio on Sunday.
Former Bundesliga star Hakan Calhanoglu (12th penalty) and Argentine world champion Lautaro Martinez (14th) set the stage for Inter to win early.
Calhanoglu took the lead again after the hour mark, and Matteo Pessina Monza brought Monza closer with a penalty kick again (68). Martinez (84'/penalty) and former Gladbach player Marcus Thuram (88') made things clear.
Last year's champions SSC Napoli continue to provide a bit of sparkle. On Saturday, Napoli beat last-placed Salernitana with a score of 2-1 (1-1) at home thanks to Amir Rahmani's goal in the last minute (90+6).
Even former Italian international Antonio Candreva gave the visitors the lead in the 29th minute. Napoli, whose top scorer, Nigerian Victor Osimhen, is participating in the African Cup, equalized from a penalty kick through Matteo Politano (45+4).
Thanks to the forced win in the end (20:6 shots on goal), Napoli rose to sixth place in the Conference League, at least for the time being.
