Cate Blanchett is tired of having to “constantly justify” her acting career in Australia.
The Oscar winner is one of the most popular female Hollywood stars. However, everywhere in his native country, his professional success failed to impress anyone. According to the 54-year-old, his craft is “not celebrated” in countries like the UK and the US, where he spends most of his time. That’s why Kate hates it when strangers ask what she’s doing.
Speaking at an event at the Sydney Theater Company’s Roslyn Baker Theatre, which she and husband Andrew Upton co-hosted from 2008 to 2011, the Courier Mail newspaper said: “The worst thing is that we as actors in Australia are left behind. A cab and a cab driver saying, ‘What are you doing?’ Because you’re like, ‘Oh, my God…’
The ‘Lord of the Rings’ actress added: “In Australia you have to constantly fight for your place or justify your right to be an artist. Our culture is celebrated, sung and admired overseas, but we don’t do that very often at home. What we have here is for us. Mostly don’t know. Because I live and work abroad, I can objectively see what we have.”
“Friend of animals everywhere. Web guru. Organizer. Food geek. Amateur tv fanatic. Coffee trailblazer. Alcohol junkie.”
