‘The Russian people should feel the pain’
Jeffrey Sonnenfeld is a professor of management at Yale University who studies the effectiveness of Western sanctions. It explains just how much the Russian economy is really hurting — and how long it can go.
On the Russian government’s sanctions list, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld ranks higher than Republican Senator and Spokesperson Mitch McConnell. The reason for this is the current studies on the effectiveness of Western sanctions and the falsified figures of the Russian president on the state of the economy. In addition, Sonnenfeld and a team of students analyzed the reaction of financial markets to the migration of Western companies. He showed that companies withdrawing from Russia performed better in the stock and credit markets than companies that were resistant to sanctions. “I have recommended to CEOs throughout my career the importance of corporate responsibility. Our studies have certainly shown that corporate responsibility is not something symbolic, but rather has tangible economic benefits.”
