During Easter there are the traditional Easter performances of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” On Sunday and Monday evenings, in nearly eight hours of airtime, several candidates tackled Gunter Gauch’s hot seat. However, no one really got very far, but the shows offered great entertainment value – including a first-time meltdown and several amazing accidents.
Perhaps the most interesting is the question ladder written by Luca Demirel. The 25-year-old was eventually fired by Jauch with “He put on a huge show” – and not without reason. In the beginning, the rebellious prospective teacher knows the answers many times before he can even read the four possibilities.

But even with the €200 question, there is a glitch: when asked to which term empanadas, gyoza, manti, pierogi and ravioli can be summed up, the candidate receives four possible answers … that make no sense.

Jauch quickly realizes that something just can’t be right. “Well, we didn’t have that either!” He pleads with the editors to put down the bottle of Kölsch. And: “I can already see the headlines: ‘Massive breakdown of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?!'” “

After the agonizing minutes, in which the editorial staff of Günther Jauch got fat again, it still works: the questions and answers match, Luca Demirel knows the right one and continues to look very sovereign and self-confident. He’s too sure of himself to trust his mate, who can answer the €32,000 question – an Easter joker – even though he knows the answer. Then Demirel hits the extra joker. It’s the only mistake he’s made up until then.
But at some point, the €64,000 question arises. Football question:
In any case, Mönchengladbach and the football fan are optimistic: “No problem, I learned all the World Cup finals by heart.” In fact, he can list every World Cup final since 1982. But that doesn’t really help him answer the question.

Fortunately for him, he still has two nicks, Demirel recovers 50/50. He even had the phone clown, but the 25-year-old decided against it. (“It’s pointless, I have to answer that on my own.”) The answers “Inter Milan and Bayern Munich” and “Real Madrid and Arsenal” linger. Then the candidate was convinced that in 2006 there was no Bayern player in the final between Italy and France – “I would have known.” Unfortunately, there was one and only Bayern player in a memorable 2006 final: French defender Willy Sagnol.

Don’t forget – this is how Luca Demirel, who now has to go home with €500, should remember the evening. Somewhat weak consolation from Gunter Gauch: “I’ve been a top 500 guy in a long time!”
