Fleet renewal: Austrian Airlines is also looking for the Airbus A321neo

Something is happening not only in the long-haul fleet of the Lufthansa subsidiary. Austrian Airlines also wants more Airbus A320neo – and is interested in the A321neo.

Ten Boeing 787-9s – Austrian Airlines will renew its long-haul fleet, as officially confirmed since Wednesday (April 19). But there is also movement in the short and medium-haul fleet of the Austrian company Lufthansa.

In an interview with the magazine Aviation week Austrian Operations Director Francesco Scortino said the Vienna-based airline would like to acquire more Airbus A320neos. “This is important for achieving our sustainability goals – we need to renew the fleet,” Sciortino said. The question is how quickly that will happen.

Also interested in the Airbus A321neo

Austrian Airlines has two A320 Neo aircraft to date and is currently planning to receive two more. Now there are likely to be more, even if Sciortino doesn’t say a number.

According to Aviation Week, the chief operating officer of the Lufthansa subsidiary said that Austrian Airlines is also considering the A321 Neo. In addition to the two A320 Neos, the airline’s fleet currently includes 29 A320 Ceos and six A321 Ceos.

So far used by these airlines in the group

To date, two airlines of the Lufthansa Group have operated the Airbus A321neo. Lufthansa already has 17 aircraft in its fleet and another 23 in the Airbus order book. Two units are currently in operation in Switzerland and six more have been ordered.

Eurowings will take delivery of the first two A321 Neo aircraft this summer. A third should follow in November or December, numbers four and five and then in 2024.
