BRISBANE – Beautiful beaches evoke a longing for travel to faraway lands in many people. On the other hand, a TikTok video from Australia turns these dreams into nightmares. Just 20 seconds showing a fisherman going about his daily work.

“Not on the Beach Again”: Fischer pulls “Nightmare” from the sand

In the video, a man is seen using a dead fish to pull a sandworm (commonly known as a beachworm in Australia) to the surface. As soon as the worm’s head came out of its hole, the man grabbed it with pliers and placed it in front of the camera. The sandworm spins and stretches in the air.

These posts have been circulating on TikTok for quite some time. Yes. Fittingly, the warm video is accompanied by a SpongeBob SquarePants tune. Fans of the animated TV series may remember a creature called the “Alaskan Bullworm” from season one. However, not much is known about its origin. Worm series blogs described Patrick as “big, scary and pink” like a belly button.

Beach Worms “Beach worms” are not a myth

The worm from the underwater world of the animated series has a prototype in nature: Australian sandworms. Commonly known as “beach worms”, they inhabit the entire southeastern Australian coast New South Wales State Website To be enjoyed.

Beach worms have a muscular body (beach worms).

Under key characteristics it states: “Sea worms have a muscular body made up of hundreds of body segments. These worms vary in color from red on the head to green to a pearly white body.

Worms are omnivores. They live under the sand and come out of the sand only to eat fish carcasses and other dead sea creatures or seaweed. Beach worms bite hard with their jaws, grab their prey and disappear again.

There are birds of prey specifically for beach worms. Fishermen use worms as bait. The art of outwitting hungry beach worms and pulling them out of the sand is obvious. However, enthusiasts freely share online the best tricks and locations for so-called beach worms.

A TikTok video about beach worms is shocking many viewers

However, many people never know about these beach worms and “wish they never knew about them”. The shock was profound: “Never go to the beach again.” One user writes: “Some things are better if you don’t see them.” “A new fear has been unlocked,” writes another. “From now on go into the water with only knight armor. Got it,” the comments read.

But there are viewers who simply scoff at the appearance of the spinning worm: “Longer than my future”. Speaking of the future, the TikTok clip sparks the imagination: “Imagine one day you’re lying on the sand sleeping and you feel something tug at your ear.”

However, adverse reactions can also be observed. “It’s just fishing bait,” comments one. Pretty sure everyone in Australia knows about it, one woman wonders. Australia has some very venomous animals, and beachgoers should inform themselves. “Its poison is stronger than cyanide,” the Australian Ambulance Service warned after an incident on the beach. Anyone who encounters this beautiful tennis ball must quickly run away. (ml)
