Once through America – and then again – the panorama

From New York to Los Angeles by bike – back on foot: extreme athlete Jonas Teichmann wants to fulfill his own American dream by touring.

When Jonas Teichmann rolls off the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, his path doesn’t just lead to Manhattan. The 36-year-old German ultra-athlete wants to cycle all the way to Los Angeles across the Pacific — when his bike finally arrives in America — and then jog along the same route. He actually wanted to start on Wednesday, but his bike didn’t arrive on time.

Once through the United States – that was Teichmann’s American dream. The avid athlete has already crossed several continents on a bike. “I’m going to experience more in the next four months than most people experience in ten years,” he enthuses.

Teichman has crossed continents and created many achievements. In the Guinness Book of Records it is the fastest bicycle ride from Portugal to Vladivostok. Tours from Alaska to Patagonia, from the North Cape to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

Teichmann finally gained more attention with his “Around the World Triathlon”, in which he cycled, ran and swam 120 times the distance of an Ironman during a round-the-world tour. Teichmann’s adventure through America was short; Logistics can be a challenge for a solo traveler. On the bike he carries his luggage in several bags. He pulls a trailer behind him on a track that runs for about 100 days.

Deichmann says the big difference from previous tours is not having a team with him. But that’s part of the adventure of a double US crossing, where he plans to return to New York in November. When he ran through Mexico in 2021, the man with the long beard and red hat was dubbed the “German Forrest Gump.”
