  • Nadine Fendrich only had to concede defeat to Jessica Diggins (USA) and Frida Carlsson (SWE) in the mass start race over 20 kilometers in Goms, and finished in a surprise third place.
  • This is the first time a Lucerne woman has reached the podium in a distance skating race at a World Cup on home soil.
  • At the end of the World Cup weekend, the men's 20km ski competition will also take place from 1:30pm (live on SRF).

What Nadine Fendrich failed to do in the sprint (6th) on Saturday, she surprisingly managed to do more than 20 kilometers of skiing with a mass start on Sunday in Goms. The Lucerne woman crossed the finish line in third place in front of her home crowd behind World Cup leaders Jessica Diggins (USA) and Frida Karlsson (Sweden).

The Swiss team leader reached the World Cup podium for the 10th time in her career – and that doesn't include the team sprint. In the distance race in skiing, she has never reached the top three before, and in 2019 in Kogny (ITA), the 28-year-old took second place in a thin field over 10 kilometers with an individual start, but in the classic discipline .

Also Kalin's sisters in points

Fähndrich announced what to expect from her in the second half of the season. This was after she became ill in December, was unable to train properly and also had to end the Tour de Ski early. I have now gained momentum again in a three-week training phase.

On a very difficult road, Diggins and favorite Karlsson retired on the last lap. Fähndrich divided her forces well and was able to break away from the chasing group on the final climb. The gap with the eventual winner was only two seconds, while fourth-placed Swede Ebba Andersson missed the podium by seven seconds.

Sisters Nadia and Marina Kalin also finished in World Cup points in 15th and 25th places.
