The Uruguayan star scored two goals in his last match with Nacional to lift the league title thanks to a 4-1 victory.
It was a little football anecdote last summer: Luis Suarez returned to Uruguay’s youth club after his contract with Atlético Madrid expired. To Club Nacional in Montevideo, which he left in 2006 as a 19-year-old for Groningen (NED) to conquer the big world of football.
Suarez’s main concern was to maintain his fitness for the World Cup in Qatar. But the fairy tale continued: FC Nacional reached the final, beating local rivals Liverpool 4-1, after clinching the title.
I had doubts whether this was the right decision.
Suarez scored two goals in his last match with Nacional and has 8 goals in 16 matches. “I am happy and grateful that it ended like this. I had doubts that this was the right decision, but now it is invaluable to be able to celebrate with my compatriots and my family.”
The 35-year-old is expected to switch to LA Galaxy after the World Cup in the US. He had already announced his departure from Nacional at the end of the season weeks ago.
