Ben Affleck, 49, and Jennifer Lopez, 52, have found each other again. The actor and singer were a Hollywood dream couple between 2002 and 2004 and were even engaged – but the relationship fell apart. This year, the two celebrated the return of their love.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Affleck reveals that his current relationship with Lopez has brought about a new side of him: “My current life reflects not only the person I want to be, but the person I really am. Not a perfectionist, but someone who does their best. And it is very important that he be honest, genuine and responsible.”
Affleck protects his privacy more
The 49-year-old couldn’t convince anyone who would benefit from the relationship more than both: “It’s hard to say without giving details.” But he also emphasizes, “I can say it’s definitely beautiful for me.”
Affleck sees the return of his love as “a very good, even great story.” “Maybe one day I will write it.” But he adds: “Then they set it on fire.” Because after decades in the spotlight, one thing he has learned “the hard way” is that you don’t have to share every detail of your life with the world: “I no longer have any problems setting boundaries… in a friendly but direct way.” If he didn’t want to talk about his private life, he wouldn’t do that either.
‘I made expensive mistakes’
Affleck would like to strike up a conversation with his young self and warn him, “About future things that I am too embarrassed to detail here. They have been expensive mistakes I’ve made. Things that have caused pain to others that I wish I had done differently today.”
The actor recognized that there are some lessons to be learned the hard way, “because the easy way in life will not make you enlightened.” He alludes to his alcohol problems, which have haunted him for decades: “Many of my agonizing mistakes are today the foundation of the important values I have acquired for myself.” (cth/bsn)
