Australia's prime minister walks among the Swifties

SYDNEY (dpa) – It seems that half of Australia is totally excited about pop superstar Taylor Swift's massive “The Eras Tour.” Now Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, 60, has revealed himself to be a Swiftie – literally a fan. The politician told Australian media that he had bought concert tickets for one of four sold-out mega shows at Sydney's Accor Stadium.

He admitted on FoxFM that he wouldn't be the most famous person at the event in his home country. “Sydney is just as obsessed with Tae Tae as Melbourne was last week,” he said. “Day Day” is one of Swift's many nicknames.

However, the first show scheduled for Friday evening was not auspicious. About 90 minutes before kick-off, a severe storm hit, forcing the evacuation of uncovered areas of the stadium. Organizers have announced that the start of the concert may have to be postponed due to fears of severe thunderstorms.

More than 80,000 fans secured tickets, which cost up to 1,200 Australian dollars (730 euros) for the most expensive seats. A total of four concerts are scheduled in Sydney until Monday.

After three spectacular shows in Melbourne, Swift took a few days off to mingle with the crowd in Sydney. Most recently, he went to an Italian restaurant in the Surry Hills district with a friend unannounced. Then a large number of fans gathered in front of the bar to see the musician. The 34-year-old was spotted at the zoo with her boyfriend, American football player Travis Kelce.

The American artist has been touring since March 2023. In the summer he will come to Germany for – already sold out – dates. With her “Eras” tour, Swift is attracting millions of fans around the world and breaking records everywhere.
