Boris Johnson’s father, Stanley Johnson (aged 81), became French. As the Paris Ministry of Justice announced on Friday, Johnson Senior’s application was approved from November and he was granted French citizenship on Wednesday.
The reason given is that Stanley Johnson’s mother was French. However, since he himself had not lived in France for more than 50 years, his citizenship expired through non-use.
The Ministry of Justice explained that when submitting the application and indicating his relationship with France, he had now obtained citizenship, as provided by the rules.
Finally part of the European Union again
The French consul in London will personally hand Johnson his citizenship certificate. Nationality has no effect on Stanley’s children and therefore on Boris Johnson.
“I am very satisfied. I am again a member of the European Union, that is very good,” Father Johnson, who at least initially criticized his son’s exit cycle, said on French channel BFMTV on Friday.
Stanley Johnson was at the World Bank and was also a member of the European Parliament in Brussels for a few years. It also campaigns to conserve nature. (SDA)
