The UK Supreme Court has rejected a request for a gender-neutral passport. The Supreme Court in London on Wednesday ruled that biographical information needed to be identified on birth, adoption or accreditation certificates.
“The legally recognized gender recorded in these documents is decisive.”
The demand to ensure the uniform approach of government agencies is also rejected. “There is no law in the UK recognizing transgender people,” the court ruled.
Plaintiff Christie Elan-Cane demanded that the letter “X” appear on the passport of persons of any gender, such as himself. Identifying oneself as male or female is a violation of human rights.
“The UK government and the judiciary are on the wrong side of history,” Ellen-Kane tweeted. The case is being re-assigned to another court, the European Court of Human Rights.
