Zulj celebrates the promotion with Bochum – Kiel losing second place

VfL Bochum and SpVgg Greuther Fürth have been promoted to the German Bundesliga. For Holstein Kiel, that was only enough for third place on the final day of the second league. Bochum made it all clear on Sunday with a 3-1 home win over Sandhausen, as Austrian top-tier Robert Zolleg clinched the final result with his 15th goal of the season. In the battle for the open last place in the Senate, Kiel has now to play two matches against the Bundesliga for third.

VfL won the league first, three points adrift of Fürth. For Bochum, the return to the Bundesliga is perfect after 11 years. The traditional club had already spent 38 years there in the club’s history.

For Groother Fürth, this is his second rise after 2012. Despite outnumbering Anton Stach’s dismissal, Franks managed a 3–2 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf (with Kevin Danso and Christoph Klarer) and overtaking Keel in the final boom.

Kiel must be in the drop zone in front of Kowloon

Kiel gambled on a direct promotion with a 2: 3 defeat to SV Darmstadt 98. Kiel would be the first first-class football team from Schleswig-Holstein and the 57th team in Bundesliga history. Now Keelers, who beat Bayern Munich in the DFB and only failed in the semi-finals, must try this historic first showing through the relegation curve.

The first leg will take place in Cologne on Wednesday (6.30 pm), the return match will be in Kiel next Saturday (6.00 pm). In the final round of the Bundesliga, FC saved itself from relegation with a 1–0 victory over Schalke 04, which had already been relegated, and pushed Werder Bremen to second place in terms of relegation.

Even when relegated to the second division, the Würzburg Kickers were decisive before the last round, which, without Stephan Mayerhofer, knocked out the second division with a 1-1 draw with Paderborn. Eintracht Braunschweig must also be relegated to the third division, and VFL Osnabrück can still hope to be relegated to the 16th division. The opponent is Division III in Division III FC Ingolstadt.
