YouTube seems to want to take tougher action against ad block users. The video platform is currently testing ad blocking after watching three videos. The data subjects are then presented with a panel in which they can subscribe to YouTube Premium, which is the paid, ad-free subscription level of YouTube.

Thus, the now-tested procedure is a middle ground, which should nonetheless upset users of ad blockers. The first victims have already spoken out on social media.

YouTube is regularly testing new ways to make its premium subscription acceptable to customers — in the past, for example, 4K videos were offered exclusively to premium users. Google also wants to offer paying customers a better bitrate for FullHD videos.
