A winter storm has paralyzed much of the US East Coast. Gas and electricity connections have been disconnected. The storm continues to move towards the northeast.
About 811,000 homes and businesses are stranded due to the winter storm America Disconnected from power supply. According to CNN, the hardest hit states are Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina. Nearly 200,000 homes are without power in Pennsylvania alone.
According to weather service AccuWeather.com, the storm is affecting much of the country east of the Mississippi. In addition to heavy snowfall of up to 40 centimeters, the storm had sustained winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour. It moves toward the northeastern United States.
