- In the 18th round of the Premier League, Winterthur defeated Lausanne Sport 1-0.
- Matteo Di Giusto scored the only goal of the match a quarter of an hour before the end.
Winterthur has pulled itself out of the doldrums in time for Christmas. Olachstadt followed up their 2-1 win over Zurich on Wednesday with another hard-fought win over Lausanne Sport in Schützenwiese. The 1-0 win leaves Patrick Frame’s side seventh in the table over the winter.
In a tough match it was Matteo Di Giusto who let luck turn to Winterthur. The 23-year-old came on for Basil Stillhart after the break. In the 74th minute, he initially stumbled in the Lausanne defense with a direct pass, but he quickly responded and succeeded in his second attempt. This was his sixth goal of the season in the Premier League.
From tenth place to seventh place
With the trio, Zurich have reaped big rewards for increased performance. The first half belonged to the visitors from Vaud, who were looked after by assistant coach Manu Hervas: Ludovic Magnin was suspended after four yellow cards.
With this win, Winterthur not only surpassed its rivals in the table, but also advanced GC and Yverdon, who shared the points on Saturday. The team leads the bottom club, Lausanne-Ouchi, by 11 points.
And this is how it continues
Winterthur will play its first match of the new year on January 20 at home against Servette. Lausanne Sport continues its match against St. Gallen on the same day at La Touliere Stadium.
