Two million euros from the Federal Government to Sonne-Platz – Gundelfingen

The transformation of the Gundelfingen Center was funded with €2.125 million from the Federal Funding Program “Adapting Urban Spaces to Climate Change”. The Bundestag’s budget committee decided on Wednesday, according to press releases from several Bundestag members. With the programme, the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction wants to support the development of green and open spaces in urban areas. Provides €176 million for structural adaptation to climate change.

In Gundelfingen, the airtight city center has been particularly badly heated in recent summer years. “Cooling is now on the horizon,” reads a press release from Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter (SPD). This is important, because exceptionally hot days can be especially dangerous for the elderly, people with circulatory problems, pregnant women, and children.

“I learned of the plans at the site. I was impressed by the wide public participation in developing ideas for the Sun Square,” FDP MP Claudia Ravelhausen was quoted in a statement. Now the community can turn the hot spot into a green heart for all.

Greens MP Chantal Kopf is also pleased in a press release that Gundelfingen can realize his concept of upgrading Sun Square. “Because urban open spaces are particularly threatened by the climate crisis,” Kopf said.

The newspaper quoted Felix Schreiner as saying in a statement that the high quality of accommodation, traffic calming, mobile tree planting and water features made the city center more attractive. The projects will be implemented by 2025. The municipality wants to invest a total of 2.5 million euros.
