Toprak Razgatlioglu und MotoGP-Testfahrer Cal Crutchlow

Toprak Razgatlioglu after the MotoGP test: “Very positive!” / World Superbike Championship

As a reward for winning the 2021 MotoGP World Championship, Toprak Razgatlioglu was given the opportunity to test the MotoGP Yamaha for a day at MotorLand Aragón today, Tuesday. The Turk was very impressed!

The Toprak Razgatlioglu Motorcycle Test was highly anticipated as it is more than a boon to Yamaha’s first Superbike title since Ben Spies in 2009.

Yamaha wanted to see how quickly the 19-time Superbike winner adapted to the bike’s prototype. On the other hand, Turk wanted to know if he would enjoy riding such a motorcycle. Fans of the two world championships are waiting for an indication of the series that the artist from Sakarya will be attracted to in the medium term. You have to know that no other superbike rider is as closely followed on the MotoGP circuit as the current world champion.

“This was my first time on a Yamaha M1. The MotoGP bike felt very different from my R1 bike. More power, different electronics, a seamless gearbox… It was all completely new to me,” Razgatlioglu said. “I learned more with each lap, because it’s not easy to get used to the MotoGP bike. The bike feels good, especially on the straights where it’s really fast, and the carbon brakes are interesting.”

Michelin tires were also new for Razgatlioglu.

Razgatlioglu was not alone during the test, and test driver Cal Crutchlow was by his side with advice and work through 40 laps.

“Fortunately, because he was able to help me a lot,” Razgatlıoğlu thanked the Englishman. “The conditions were really very hot, so after the first round of twelve we limited ourselves to five or six laps to get used to the bike. When I watch the Aragon MotoGP on TV, I could see that it was a little bumpy and I could feel it. But it’s Not that bad, you just have to keep your foot on the gas while navigating the bumps. If you let the gas on, the bike becomes more stable.”

The weather was mixed in Aragon on Tuesday. It was hot all day, but in the afternoon it rained heavily for a short while.

“Overall, it was a very positive test, even though I was able to drive less than I wanted because of the rain,” Razgatlioglu concluded. “It was really fun to drive the MotoGP Yamaha. Thanks for the opportunity.”

No lap times have been reported by Yamaha, according to reports, the Toprak was close to Crutchlow within a few tenths of a second.

Motorcycle enthusiasts who now want to take him from Razgatlioglu to the first class will have to be patient. Because Razgatlioglu will also compete for Yamaha in the Superbike World Championship in 2023, because he agreed with his manager Kenan Sofoglu from the start: The Champion on the customer team would not compete in the MotoGP World Championship. Next year, the factory team will consist of Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli.
